Discover "Discovery"

Discovery is an all time favorite band of mine, featuring an electronic/ pop sound. Basically, if Passion Pit, Daft Punk, and Foster the People somehow all had a baby together, Discovery would be their child. The band actually consists of only 2 guys, Rostam Batmanglij, from Vampire Weekend, and Wes Miles, from Ra Ra Riot. Rostam does the funky keyboard work while Wes does the dreamy singing. The sound is super upbeat and very fantastical and futuristic. Feel free to ridicule me for saying this, but the music just makes me happy and excited, and I imagine myself floating about in space or perhaps swimming and frolicking with some hip dolphins when I listen to them. One thing this band does that I usually don't really care for is that they use a lot of heavy auto-tuning on the vocals. However, I actually enjoy the altered sounds on this album, because the auto-tuning is not done in a painfully obnoxious way, and I know that Wes actually possesses the talent to sing without it (unlike my home girl, the notorious Ke$ha).

I will honestly admit that after listening to about 4 tracks of these guys, I do find myself more than ready to listen to something that doesn't sound quite so much like a Robot Disco, but when I am in the mood for this band, they really hit the spot. Here are some links to some of my favorite tracks by them:

Osaka Loop Line:

Carby (This one is particularly awesome, because Rostam brought in Ezra Koenig, his other fellow band member from Vampire Weekend,to do the vocals on this track) :

Also, another cool thing the band has done is made a remix/ cover of Jackson 5's "I Want You Back". Here are the links to both videos, see which one you like best. I obviously like Jackson 5's better, but that's because it's such a classic that's nearly impossible to beat.

(this one takes like 19 seconds to start for whatever reason)

Hope you enjoyed "discovering" Discovery!
